Our Theatre

From a working farm to the heart of community theatre

The Barn’s story stretches back long before the first curtain rose. Built on its present site in around 1830, the great timber barn began life at the heart of Handside Farm before later serving as a milking parlour, dairy and bottling plant. In 1932, it found a remarkable new purpose as a public theatre. Explore the history of this extraordinary building and discover how a place shaped by agriculture became a much-loved home for live performance and community theatre in Welwyn Garden City.
